Anurag University and Telangana Police ink MoU for Bilateral Cooperation in Cyber Security and related areas

The MoU acts as a bridge to bring industry and academia together in a collaborative mode to gain each other mutually and subsequently benefit society at large

Hyderabad, Telangana: The Hyderabad based one of the reputed educational institutions, Anurag University(AU) and India’s one of the most efficient police force, Telangana Police have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the city on Monday for Bilateral Cooperation in the fields of Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence(AI), Research and Capacity Building.

Disclosing this in a press note issued in the city Dr Sameen Fatima described it as self-help through mutual cooperation.

The MoU was signed by herself, on behalf of the Anurag University and Mr M.Mahendar Reddy, DGP, Telangana, on behalf of the TS Police.

The same was exchanged by Prof. S. Ramchandram, Vice-Chancellor of Anurag University and Mr M. Mahendar Reddy, DGP in the presence of Mrs Swati Lakra, Director-General of Police (women safety);  Smt S. Neelima, CEO of Anurag University; Dr G. Vishnu Murthy, Dean, School of Engineering, Anurag University.

The aim of the agreement is to have a partnership to make cyberspace safe and secure, for taking up R&D(Research and Development)  and operational activities in the field of Cyber Security and other Information Communication Technologies (ICT) and related aspects.

It will be beneficial to both the organisations and will serve as an extended arm for capacity building,  both for students and Police.  On the other side, Police can utilise the research capabilities of the Anurag University and take maximum benefit out of the experience of its professors said, Dr Sameena Fatima

Dr G. Vishnu Murthy, Dean of SOE AU, that they have a vision of developing, enhancing and improving the quality of human resources to overcome the Cyber threats of regional and national level. We will focus on R&D, awareness programs and strengthening the practical application of cyber security, cyber threat detection and mitigation.

Further, we will conduct capacity building programmes, workshops, events, hackathons on Cyber Security and ICT related aspects, he added.

TS Police is a pioneer in the implementation of Information Technology initiatives for the safety and security of citizens. It has established Cyber Forensic Labs and Centres of Excellence (CoE) for uniform delivery of services and to support  Investigating Officers for handling investigation and prosecution of cases in the field of Cybercrime and related aspects.

The MoU enables SoE AU to access the Cybercrime Cells established by TS Police for R&D purposes and study emerging trends in the field of Cybercrime.

On the other hand, TS Police can get trained at Anurag University in new-age technologies and tools to mitigate cybercrime. The agreement helps TS Police to get priority in training programmes, workshops, events, hackathons on the latest Information Communication Technologies (ICT), Cyber Security and related aspects. With the right approach and knowledge officers can use tools they already have to track, catch online criminals. The training will also open up new horizons for them in understanding the latest Cyber technologies, support and provide technical solutions for operational and investigation requirements and public awareness programmes.

This is very much required because of the changing nature and patterns of the crime. According to Police statements issued from time to time the days of conventional crimes are over and there is a visible shift towards cyber crimes.  And the Police must be equipped well to handle such crimes which are on the rise of late

The SoE, AU will extend its expertise and render support in the investigation and detection of significant cybercrimes reported in the state of Telangana. It shall make efforts to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and evolve best practices in Cyber Security, ICT and related aspects.

Further, it allows Police Officers to do Doctoral Programs, Ph. D on a part-time basis in the field of Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Information Communication technologies and other aspects. So that this will not only encourage Police Officers with appropriate qualifications to further their knowledge but also contribute very constructively to their profession.  It is agreed to permit at least one police officer a year to pursue the doctoral program, which is something very unique and rare. This will set a trend and more police officers may follow the suit.

On the Police side, they will share information about the latest trends in Cybercrime about Modus Operandi and targets of cybercriminals for Project and R&D purposes.

The students of SoE, AU are more likely to benefit immensely as Police as the MoU will allow Teachers and Students to visit Cybercrime Units for the project-specific requirements and also for the execution of small modules of ongoing projects of TS Police, as per mutually agreed terms.

B.Tech and M. Tech students will be allowed to do short term internships for mutually agreed duration and topics.  This will enable students to gain hands-on,  on the job experience and knowledge so that they will gain more practical insights into the subject, gain confidence and will also possess  the job-ready skills, which are most sought after currently.

In today’s job market, passing exams alone doesn’t hold much water.  Industry looks for much-needed work experience. Internship offers real-life exposure.  It not only provides a first-hand experience in the real working world but also enable students to understand the career better, can learn how to apply the knowledge they have acquired

The MoU comes into force from the day of signing of the agreement i.e August 16 and will be in force for next five years. It can be extended further on mutual consent.
