A Language for the Inner Life: Edarly Elizabeth Edouard on Poetry as Reflection and Recovery

There are books that explain emotions, and then there are books that live inside them. Journey of the Mind, Heart and Soul belongs to the second kind. It does not attempt to organise feeling or soften it for comfort. Instead, it allows emotion to arrive as it is, honest, layered, and deeply human.

Authored by Edarly Elizabeth Edouard, Journey of the Mind, Heart and Soul: Poems of Faith, Youth, and Heartbreak is a poetry collection shaped by lived emotion and personal reflection. The poems offer a glimpse into her way of life and the way she processes feeling, from faith and joy to confusion, loss, and heartbreak. At its core, the book carries a clear belief that writing itself can be a form of therapy, and that expression is often the first step toward healing.

Written as an emotional record rather than a performance, the collection invites readers to recognise their own experiences within the verses. It speaks to those who have struggled to articulate what they feel, reminding them that there is relief, and even quiet joy, in naming emotion through words.

For Edarly, poetry has been a lifelong companion. Her relationship with literature began early, shaped by a deep fondness for books and an openness to many genres. She began writing poetry in elementary school, initially as instinct, which gradually became a daily habit. As life unfolded and experiences grew more complex, so did her writing. Over time, poetry became a space where deeper emotions could exist without explanation.

The emotional landscape of Journey of the Mind, Heart and Soul reflects that growth. The poems move through youth, belief, and heartbreak with sincerity, capturing moments where words feel both necessary and insufficient. Writing, for Edarly, becomes a way to speak when conversation fails, a gift she continues to treasure as both refuge and release.

Beyond poetry, Edarly Elizabeth Edouard is a licensed medical scientist specialising in laboratory work, balancing a scientific profession with a strong creative practice. Her artistic voice has found recognition beyond the page as well. In 2019, she was named a finalist in the Piano Slam and recognised among the top 88 youth poets in Miami Dade County. Alongside writing, she finds expression through painting landscapes and playing the piano, creative forms that echo the emotional honesty found in her poetry.

What Journey of the Mind, Heart and Soul ultimately offers is permission. Permission to feel deeply. Permission to write imperfectly. Permission to heal through expression. It does not promise resolution or certainty. It simply reminds the reader that emotion, once expressed, becomes lighter to carry.

The book stands as a quiet affirmation of literature as presence rather than performance. A language for inner life. A space where reflection becomes recovery, one poem at a time.
