Mayaa SH speaks on Truth and Non Violence Being Inseparable: Gandhi Jayanti

Truth in life is indestructible and Non-violence is a weapon of the strong. Non-violence and truth are mutually inseparable and they presuppose one another. One takes time to be completely not be violent in our thoughts and intentions in life. It comes with the practice of gratitude and kindness in life. We have to continue to make nonviolence and being truthful as a virtue to harbour. The goal of a culture of peace is to ensure that conflicts resulting from human relations are settled in a non-violent manner and in accordance with traditional peacebuilding values: justice, freedom, equity, solidarity, tolerance, and respect for human dignity. With Gandhi, the notion of nonviolence attained a special status. He not only theorized on it, he adopted nonviolence as a philosophy and an ideal way of life. He made us understand that the philosophy of nonviolence is not a weapon of the weak; it is a weapon, which can be tried by all. Nonviolence was not Gandhi’s invention. He is however called the father of nonviolence. Gandhi was the first in Human history to extend the principle of nonviolence from the individual to social and political plane. While scholars were talking about an idea without a name or a movement, Gandhi is the person who came up with the name and brought together different related ideas under one concept: “Satyagraha”. Issues surrounding identity play a major part in conflict, and those that have been fractured during the conflict need to be restored in the interests of peace-building. Cultural activities allow individuals to build a new identity by taking part in theatrical activities, music performances and sports. One has to object to violence because it perpetuates hatred. When it appears to do ‘good’, the good is only temporary and cannot do any good in the long run. A true non violenct person accepts violence on himself or herself without inflicting it on another. One cannot applaud cowardice. If you have love towards somebody, and you respect that person, then you are not going to do any harm to that person. Nonviolence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than any weapon of mass destruction. It is superior to brute force. It is a living force of power and no one has been or will ever be able to measure its limits or it’s extend. A Culture of Peace will be achieved when citizens of the world understand global problems, have the skills to resolve conflicts and struggle for justice non-violently, live by international standards of human rights and equity, appreciate Cultural Diversity, and Respect the Earth and each other. Thus, culture of peace signifies a state of mind that abjures violence as well as measures and structures, which promise to solidify and build trust and interaction among people for avoiding a relapse into conflict. Culture of peace is cultivated and nurtured in the minds of citizens.

“We cannot look at mutual respect and admiration of any fellow human being until we culture an environment of building Peace as an instrument of Change. Non Violence and Transparency are imperative to build a mindset that is driven to drive transformation. This indeed fosters Compassion. Compassion enhances personal well-being by fostering a sense of purpose, connection, and self-esteem. It contributes to a more peaceful and just society by promoting inclusivity, understanding, and action towards social issues.”
