Never lose your courage and keep your dreams alive: Seema Kalavadia

Founder of fashion labels SIMS Studio & Sparsh, Seema Kalavadia has created a reputation for herself as a noted fashion designer with her designs that fits for everyone. From classy wedding lehengas to modern gowns and even our own traditional khadi wear, Seema has impressed with all kind of designs. A mother of two kids, Seema Kalavadi’a journey of being a fashion designer is quite inspiring one.

Seema Kalavadia who was born and raised in Junagadh and later in Rajkot had a humble beginning. She says, “While studying, I dreamt of becoming a fashion designer. This required to go to Mumbai in those days which was not that easy for me.” Seema got married to Dr. Hitendra Kalavadia who along with her in laws not only supported her dream but helped her in all possible ways.“After getting married I completed my post-graduation in Commerce. I used to design my own outfits to look different which was helping me in keeping my dream alive.” Adds Seema.

It was in 2016, when she pursued a degree course in fashion designing which was followed by an online course in styling from the London School of Trend. Seema’s designs also got selected for New York Fashion Week and then for Lakme fashion Week. Today, costumes of many celebs are designed by Seema at her studio in Surat. To revive the ancient Khadi material and bring the youth close to Gandhian values, Seema launched her khadi collection which was well received and appreciated. Seema also participated in the fashion show organized by KDCI (Khadi Design Council of India) and won the best design award. Now Seema also serves as an advisory board member of KDCI and she has given online internship to more than 500 students.

When Covid pandemic struck, Seema designed three-layer khadi masks which became quite popular. Seema was able to provide employment to thousands of rural women in this project along with an organization named Shakti Foundation. Seema keeps her association alive with these women and comes out with various collections based on Khadi which has gained popularity not only in India but outside at Dubai, New Zealand and Australia.

Seema says, “I struggled a lot, but never lost courage and kept my dream alive. The support of my family helped me to achieve my goals making sure that I also perform my roles as a daughter, wife and a mother. I believe if you have desire to do something, one day you will definitely succeed”
