Shushant Shekhar – Winner of the 21st Century Emily Dickinson Award

“फिर से मिलेंगे” – Shushant Shekhar’s Poetic Voice for the Quietly Waiting Hearts

Some poetry speaks softly, yet lingers like an echo in the chambers of the soul. फिर से मिलेंगे, the debut poetry collection by Shushant Shekhar, is a heartfelt tribute to those who live caught between dreams and duty, between unspoken love and unfinished goodbyes.

Winner of the 21st Century Emily Dickinson Award, Shushant’s collection is not a loud proclamation—it is a conversation, gentle and raw, with those whose lives are stretched thin between routine and longing. His poems give voice to those stuck in the in-between: of clock-ins and heartaches, of societal expectations and the ache of unsaid words.

“Whenever I met people in leisure and spoke of emotions, I saw they were carrying unspoken sorrows,” Shushant shares. “This book flowed from the untold feelings they couldn’t say aloud—but I could write.”

A banker by profession, martial artist by passion, and poet by soul, Shushant Shekhar is a man of many dimensions. But at his core lies a deeply empathetic observer—someone who notices the cracks beneath a composed smile, the story behind a hurried nod, the pain behind silence.

His collection फिर से मिलेंगे (We’ll Meet Again) is filled with poems that are not decorated with flourish—but grounded in truth. He writes about love lost in translation, desires buried beneath responsibilities, and the hope that, someday, somehow, those stories may find closure or reunion.

The judges of the Emily Dickinson Award praised Shushant for his “soulful simplicity and the poignant universality of his themes.” Indeed, every piece feels like it belongs to someone you know—or perhaps to a part of yourself.

He puts it best in his own words:

“A wall was there, between outer me and inner soul.
I removed some bricks, screamed from the hole.
Author in me, calls it poetry for you.”

With फिर से मिलेंगे, Shushant Shekhar doesn’t just offer poetry—he offers a soft landing place for broken dreams and patient hearts. His work is a reminder that even in the midst of routine, the soul still feels, still waits, and still writes.
