Sridhar Ramu – Winner of the 21st Century Emily Dickinson Award

“My Daring Pursuit At Poetry” – A Journey Through Life’s Simple Moments, Reimagined in Verse

Every poet begins with a moment—a spark, a longing, a gentle nudge from within. For Sridhar Ramu, that moment came as a quiet challenge to himself: to step beyond admiration for the written word and step into it. My Daring Pursuit At Poetry is the result—a heartfelt collection of 71 poems that traverse the landscapes of daily life with charm, humor, and insight.

Awarded the 21st Century Emily Dickinson Award, this book is a celebration of the extraordinary within the ordinary. Whether exploring themes like holidays, festivals, sports, or professions, Sridhar brings a fresh lens to familiar experiences—reminding us that even the simplest things can become deeply meaningful when looked at with care.

“I always had a passion for literature,” he shares. “Poetry was always my favorite. I finally thought—why not give it a shot and step into the magical world of literature?” And with that, a daring pursuit was born.

An IIT Madras graduate, Sridhar began his professional journey with Infosys in its early days, later spending 8 years in the United States before returning to Bengaluru, India, where his creative spirit found new ground to flourish. But beyond his corporate journey lies a multitalented soul—one who paints, sketches portraits, plays the harmonica, sings, cooks, and cycles long distances.

In My Daring Pursuit At Poetry, Sridhar channels this rich life experience into verses that are playful yet thoughtful, insightful yet lighthearted. His poetry doesn’t pretend to be abstract or esoteric—it welcomes the reader in with open arms and often leaves them smiling, reflecting, or simply feeling seen.

The Emily Dickinson Award jury called the book “a joyful reflection on the human experience through a unique poetic lens,” praising Sridhar for his ability to weave themes of everyday life into poetry that feels both personal and universal.

But Sridhar’s contributions go far beyond the literary world.

Currently, he serves as the District Chairman for Youth Empower and Expand in Rotary District 3191, where his passion for community-building and social upliftment shines through. He has:

  • Counseled over 10,000 students across 100 schools, guiding them through critical educational and career choices.
  • Taught spoken English to women in three villages, directly empowering over 75 women—10 of whom are now gainfully employed.
  • Offered free tailoring classes to 90 underprivileged women, turning them into financial contributors to their families.

This intersection of art, service, and empathy defines Sridhar’s journey. Whether through verse or volunteerism, his work embodies the belief that simple actions—when done with heart—can shape lives.

With My Daring Pursuit At Poetry, Sridhar Ramu has shown us that poetry need not always be about sorrow or grand themes—it can also be about joy, wonder, and the quiet dignity of daily life. It can come from engineers, educators, and dreamers alike. And sometimes, all it takes is the courage to begin.
