63-year-old patient successfully undergoes BMT surgery at HCG Manavata Cancer Centre Nashik

BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant or Stem Cell Transplant) is a very complex surgical procedure which includes, collection of stem cells & storage, high dose chemotherapy and transfusion of the stem cells. The whole procedure needs intense monitoring and supportive care.

Usually, BMT is not advised to senior citizens because of the wear and tear the body has to go through and the added complications that occur in the post-operative period. Common complications that arise are severe infections, severe Mucositis, Bleeding which could potentially also be fatal.

However, HCG Manavata Cancer Centre Nashik decided to undertake this complex surgical procedure on a 63-year-old male patient from Sinnar because they have a team of high calibre BMT doctors and experienced BMT support staff, who believed they can successfully complete the surgery. The operation was led by Dr. Priyatesh Dwivedi & Dr. Ambar Garg.

The patient had Hepatitis B before BMT, which was treated before and then taken for BMT. Patient did not have any major complications during BMT or show any major complications in the post operative period.
