An Insightful Session into 3D Design at JD School of Design with Adobe Experts

JD School of Design conducted an exclusive and engaging session for students with two Adobe experts: Sharrom Yezdegardi, an SME of Substance 3D, and Sai Melapudi, a Technical Artist working on Substance 3D. The session allowed the students to dive deep into 3D design and receive the tools, techniques, and ideas they need to succeed in current creative professions.

Opening Doors to the Substance 3D World

The session started with an inviting introduction by Prashant Alagiya, the Lead of Education for South India and Sri Lanka. He set the tone by discussing the growing role of digital resources in design and how technology was transforming the creative industry. His enthusiasm for change set the perfect stage for the following session, which was educational and inspiring.

Sharrom Yezdegardi, the Head of Enterprise Growth India for Adobe’s 3D & Immersive business, is an experienced and knowledgeable veteran of 3D design. His topic of discussion was the Substance portfolio and how this has impacted the fashion, interior and jewellery design industries.

For most students, this was the first in-depth look at how 3D tools are changing the design process. Sharrom Yezdegardi showed the capabilities of Substance 3D, teaching students how to use them to create highly realistic textures and materials to enhance their design ideas. What was most impressive was how versatile these tools are in terms of using them across several creative disciplines. For example, fashion designers can create realistic fabric patterns with Substance, interior designers can see rooms in complete 3D detail, and jewellery designers can model fine details before laying a hand on a piece of metal.

Sharrom Yezdegardi did not only talk about the technicalities; he also spoke about his experience and the need to adapt new technologies to remain competitive in the creative industry. He presented a strong argument for immersive technologies and their increasing application in fields such as fashion, media, and architecture. This was an important insight for students who might not be aware of how widespread and diverse 3D design tools have become.

Hands-On with 3D Design Tools

Students got a chance to roll up their sleeves with some of the technical details by Sai Melapudi, a Technical Artist at Adobe. He guided them through a thorough technicality of using Substance 3D more productively. He also presented a treasure chest of tips, tricks, and techniques that are essential for anyone using 3D design software.

This was extremely helpful in moving beyond fundamentals to advanced expertise. He not only spoke about features but did live demonstrations too. From procedure flows to content creation, he gave the students step-by-step insights into high-level design production and workflow streamlining for greater effectiveness. He had a crisp approach to teaching so that students without much experience found it easy to understand. Learning the technical ins and outs of 3D tools enables designers to spend more time on the creative end of designing was also highlighted.  This resonated with students, as it illustrated how knowledge of the tools will, in the long run, result in more innovative and effective designs.

The session was not just a matter of learning new software—it was about understanding that 3D design is part of a rapidly evolving creative world. The session reaffirmed that design is no longer within the purview of traditional tools and techniques; it’s about utilizing technology to open doors.

The Adobe Substance 3D session at JD School of Design powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology offered a unique opportunity to learn from two experts who are defining the future of design. The session combined technical know-how and real-life applications and gave students the tools and inspiration needed to excel in today’s fast-moving world of design.
