Jivanrang: How One Woman’s Childhood Sparked a Movement to Reimagine Eldercare in Urban India

Thane, (Maharashtra) [India], 6th of May, 2025: In the quiet corners of Thane city, a quiet revolution is unfolding—one that addresses a rapidly growing, yet often overlooked, reality. According to recent NSSO data, 28.3% of the aged in rural India and a striking 36.8% in urban areas suffer from one disease or another. As India’s population ages, so does the demand for thoughtful, comprehensive care. For Mayuri Gharat, the founder of Jivanrang Lifecare Pvt. Ltd., the need wasn’t just statistical—it was deeply personal.

Jivanrang wasn’t built in a boardroom. It was born in the heart of a small NGO run by Mayuri’s mother #SmitEkMission, where she spent her childhood surrounded by seniors—some spirited, others struggling, many forgotten. She watched them battle loneliness, deteriorating health, and a silent fading of identity. But she also saw another side: caregivers and families, desperate to do the right thing but caught in the churn of modern life.

Later, armed with an MBA and a corporate job, Mayuri found herself at the intersection of structure and chaos. “I saw how systems and support work so well in business—and how completely absent they are in eldercare,” she says. That realization ignited her mission: to create a care model rooted not just in professionalism, but in empathy.

Established in 2018, Jivanrang now operates two assisted living centers in the heart of Thane, housing 39 seniors with care plans that are as diverse as the residents themselves. From dementia-specific memory care to post-hospitalization recovery, every offering is tailored to the needs of both the elderly and their families. Their unique city-centre approach ensures seniors aren’t pushed to the outskirts, but remain immersed in community life.

At Jivanrang, care isn’t a checklist—it’s a lifestyle. Focused on enhancing the quality of life for seniors, it offers cognitive therapies, spiritual sessions, personalized diets, and compassionate companionship. They are now building something much bigger — Jivanrang Elderly Care and Assisted Living— a one-stop digital platform for everything related to elderly care. It helps families stay connected, tracks health in real time, finds trusted caregivers, and supports seniors through community activities and emotional care. Jivanmitra is built to make aging easier — for both seniors and their loved ones.

For NRIs and urban families seeking trustworthy, nearby eldercare, Jivanrang is becoming the name to know. But for Mayuri, it’s more than a company. “This is about honoring our elders,” she says, “not with sympathy, but with systems that let them age with grace.”

In a country where the aging population is rising and family structures are evolving, Jivanrang is doing more than filling a gap—it’s setting a new gold standard.
